Google, as expected, has officially launched artificial intelligence reviews in the US and will expand the launch to other countries by the end of this year.

Until now, AI reviews have only been available in Search Labs as part of the Search Generative Experience.

AI Overviews, briefly called AI Overviews, are not snippets, but rather generative AI responses that aim to answer your query using Google’s Gemini. Google will formulate an AI answer and provide AI maps with links to publishers under the AI overview so you can dive deeper into the results.

When does Google show AI reviews?

  • Google will only show AI reviews for queries that are more complex, where the AI review will provide more value than other information shown on the search results page.

How often will AI reviews be shown?

  • This is something Google simply doesn’t talk about, although many have asked. However, recent studies have shown that AI reviews have dropped from being shown 65% of the time to 35% of the time and are appearing much less frequently.
  • Google experts also claim that link cards at the bottom of AI reviews get more clicks than a regular snippet of search results and have a higher click-through rate.

Is it possible to opt out of having your content used in artificial intelligence reviews?

  • Let’s say you don’t want Google to use your content for these AI reviews, and you don’t want to appear in the cards for AI reviews. You can’t just opt out of AI reviews without opting out of regular search.
  • AI reviews are part of search, so you need to opt out of search completely using robots.txt or meta tags (or other methods).

What happens to favorite snippets in Google search?

Speaking of favorite snippets, they are not being replaced by AI reviews. Google has said that favorite snippets are not going away and the search engine will continue to show them in search results.

It’s unclear whether Google will show both favorite snippets and AI reviews on the same search results page.

Safe queries in AI reviews

Google has said it will only show AI reviews when the searcher can trust the results. But that didn’t stop Google from recommending drinking urine to get rid of kidney stones.

The name of SGE

So, is SGE, or Search Generative Experience, going away? Well, sort of. Google said we should call AI Overviews reviews, not SGE, or Search Generative Experience. What was launched, which is AI Overviews and essentially Search Generative Experience, will remain in the labs with the new AI labs features.

Google wrote, “AI reviews in search are replacing the Search Generative Experience.”

So what about ads in Google’s new search?

Google AI reviews don’t show ads, but Google does show ads above and below and in other places around AI reviews.
